The artistry of Pieter Lefferts is the outward expression of his adventuring spirit. His light filled landscapes and moody nocturnes capture the grand and sublime of Nature with keen observation and boundless curiosity.
A native of Connecticut, Pieter graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Academic study in Italy coupled with world travel as tour manager for the Gerry Mulligan Quartet brought the pages of art history to life while nurturing his musical talent as well. He honed his skills as a painter by training in traditional techniques at the Art Students League of New York, learning the methods of the Boston School from master painter Hilary H. Holmes. Pieter’s award-winning artwork is in collections throughout the US and in Europe, including those of prominent collectors of American art. Pieter’s lectures on subjects as varied as ‘200 Years of the Nude in American Art’, at the New Britain Museum of American Art, and the techniques of Impressionist masters at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, CT, are lively and engaging journeys into their topics. His programs ‘The Artful Life of Color’, at the Taconic Learning Center in Salisbury, CT and the ‘History of the Palette’ are surveys of art history through the eyes of an artist passionate for his materials.
