Dennis Fritz is renowned for his fine portrait paintings. We are thrilled to show some of his other works for their very first public viewing!
As a transplant from the Midwest, Dennis has been living and painting in our area for over 35 years. The beauty of our local landscapes are inspiration for many Fritz paintings.
I am not so much concerned with how I see as an individual artist as with how we see, all of us. I suspect that no one can show the mature viewer anything he has not already witnessed in some form, although it may not have registered visually at the time. I view my work as a Re-presentation of the world of seeing that we all have in common, exposed by light and funneled through my own individual sensibilities. If a viewer responds to my work, I’d like to think it is because he is reminded of what he was already aware of in some form—visual, mental, intuitive... Recognition is the proper response and we only ‘recognize’ what we already possess some evidence of.
I want the subject matter of my landscapes to be built on atmosphere defined by light. The specific images in each work are the vehicles for these two elements.
